Should all Sheffield Businesses look to “The Cloud” for answers
The top buzz words in the IT industry at the moment is “The Cloud”, but is it the answer for everyone? While The Cloud offers many ready to go products at a very competitive rate, it also holds lots of pitfalls for firms.
The most attractive points to The Cloud are simple, you only buy what you need, it boasts high availability and resilience, no large investments in high depreciating hardware or software. Simply purchase a set amount of seats within a pre-configure pre-agreed environment and your away. This is ideal for quick, low cost startups, right through to blue chip companies.
At a glance, the above looks extremely attractive so it not suprising companies are running towards The Cloud with open arms but only last month, we learnt that one of the biggest electronics companies in the world “Sony” had been compromised by hackers and have been relieved of 77 million records from its databases. This breach is a massive setback for Sony who’s PlayStation network relies on secure communications across it “Cloud” to promote its online gaming.
In conclusion, is it time to rush into The Cloud with such trusting expectations if even mutli-billion dollar corporations cant get it right just yet?
